TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
BECOME A MEMBER
Welcome to your union, UAW Local 4123! Our union is made up of the 10,000 academic workers across the CSU, including 3000 TAs, 1000 GAs, 6000 ISAs. Academic Student Workers (ASWs) include graduate and undergraduate students across all 23 CSU campuses, and all domestic and international students are able and strongly encouraged to join their union. Our strong majority membership has allowed us to negotiate and enforce better working conditions for ASWs, and our ability to improve and defend our rights depends on every ASW signing up for membership.
JOIN A WORKING GROUP
We can organize to make changes both in our statewide contract and on our campuses. Union members created Working Groups to provide a dedicated space to make the changes we want to see happen through. Working groups can be focused on single issues like parking and transit, and identity-based issues like disability and accessibility. Working groups are member-led and offer a focused way for members to get involved with issues closest to them by strategizing, developing, and coordinating action plans.
We currently have working groups dedicated to:
international students
undergraduate students
parking and transit
disability and accessibility
political action committee
the BDS movement
The list of working groups is always expanding. If there’s an issue you’d like to organize around with your coworkers, let us know!
GET INVOLVED WITH BARGAINING
Bargaining is a worker-led fight, and there are several ways to get involved and support the process to secure a strong contract. This includes campus organizing, educating fellow workers, participating in Initial Bargaining Demands, and attending bargaining sessions.
SUBMIT A GRIEVANCE
Academic Student Workers have won strong rights and protections under our Collective Bargaining Agreement. When our guaranteed rights are violated, we have recourse through the grievance process. Your union is here to support you every step of the way through the grievance process and empower you by standing up for our rights as union workers. If you have a concern, question, or problem about any aspect of your employment, please reach out to us!
